Caliente is a small community nestled in the mountains. It is magnificent to see the sunrises and sunsets come over these mountains. It is truly a "Hidden Treasure" in Nevada. Sometimes I think of our church as a "Hidden Treasure".

It has certainly been a very busy time for all of us at Caliente Community UMC!  We hosted our first ever "Hidden Treasure Retreat" and it was a huge success! We watched the stars around a campfire and read Scripture. Hiked into Etna Canyon and had lunch with devotions. Saturday evening we went to Cathedral Gorge and enjoyed wonderful Dutch Oven cooking! We concluded Sunday with worship and a Potluck Luncheon. What a wonderful time of fellowship, worship and food. We are already planning our next retreat for the Fall! Watch for details.

We are in the midst of a sermon series entitled: "Mythbusters: Misconceptions about God, the Bible & the Church".  May 27th we begin another series called-- "Modern Family Values".  Should be interesting!
Memorial Day weekend we will be helping with games at Rose Park.
     June 4th is our VBS!
I hope that you will come and meet us and joy together with us as we grow in our faith and serve Christ in this world! God bless, Pastor Bob

This week we continue our celebration of Holy Week and Easter!

Thursday we will host a "Messiah in the Passover" in Gray Hall. Come and see how the Passover points to a greater redemption in Jesus Christ.

Good Friday will be a quiet service as we read the "Passion" of Christ.

Easter will be a joyous celebration of the resurrection and what Jesus has done on our behalf!

I pray that you will join us!

Snowy Day

I sit here today at my dining room table in the parsonage looking out at the snow that has been falling all day. It has caused me to remain indoors for most of the day. This is probably a good thing. I need to "be still" some times. It reminds me of the snow days we used to have back East. Whenever we had a snow day I would read more and spend quality time with God. Today has been no different. I've been blessed to review my message for tomorrow, review the Covenant Bible study material and actually spend time looking at some old Greek lessons. It has been a refreshing day! We all need to spend time with God and in study of His Word. I pray that we would all see the value of enriching our faith, so we are better prepared to give an adequate defense when we are witnessing in the world. Shalom for now.

Transfiguration Sunday

2/8/2018

This week, Feb. 11th,  we celebrate the Transfiguration. This is the time Jesus took Peter, James and John up on a mountain. There He was met by Moses and Elijah and He transfigured, or shone brightly. This was to give the disciples a glimpse of the glory that was to come!

Feb. 14th at 5:30 we will have our Ash Wednesday service, which begins our Lenten season. This is a season of preparation for Easter. We prepare ourselves by praying, fasting, reading scripture and attending worship. In the early church, Lent was a time of preparation for those who were to be baptized as new believers at Easter. For Christians around the world it is a time to confess our sins once again and get right with God. This all begins on Ash Wednesday, where we confront our own mortality and confess our sin before God and within our community of faith.

I hope that you will join as on this journey! It's never too late and you are never too far gone to begin or renew a relationship with Jesus Christ!  The Messiah!!
Hope to see you there!
